Media use in The Netherlands and Dutch media itself are very different from media in other countries in many espects:
The Dutch print media are very concentrated. Furthermore, there are many tv- and radio stations, national, regional and local.
The use of the traditional media is still of great importance, while new media is being developed. The new and innovative technologies available make it possible for consumers to choose how, when and in what format media (and news specifically) is being consumed. Consequently, publishers of daily newspapers such as De Telegraaf are actively looking for new ways of creating larger and more suitable news portals to satisfy consumers in their changing expectations of media.
Weekend subscriptions, making use of tabloid size editions (for instance Sp!ts, Sport on Monday and Reiskrant and TV Weekeinde on Saturday) are examples of new ideas of using an already existing publication. Moreover, by further increasing and developing their own websites, publishers like Uitgeversmaatschappij De Telegraaf B.V. have provided a significant online news supply as well. And with success: the online newspaper portals are nowadays very popular and the pageviews still keep growing every month.
SP!TS
SP!TS is a free sheet publication (like METRO) and is published by Basismedia B.V., part of the Telegraaf Media Group. Besides one of the most well read newspapers in The Netherlands, SP!TS is one of the fastest growing brands in The Netherlands. More
